NIFT 2027 Eligibility Criteria
Before you fall in love with the idea of studying at NIFT, let’s make sure you’re actually eligible. The good news? NIFT is pretty inclusive, and you don’t need to be a science wizard to get in.
For Undergraduate Programs (B.Des & B.FTech)
Age Limit:
- General category candidates must be under 24 years of age as of August 1, 2027.
- SC/ST/PwD candidates get a 5-year relaxation (so under 29 years).
Educational Qualification for B.Des:
- You must have passed Class 12 (10+2) from any recognized board — CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, or equivalent.
Any stream is acceptable — Science, Commerce, Arts, or even Vocational subjects. Yes, you read that right. You don’t need to have studied Math or Science to become a fashion designer at NIFT
Educational Qualification for B.FTech (Bachelor of Fashion Technology):
You must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. This is the technical side of fashion — garment manufacturing, production, quality control — so math and science are non-negotiable here
Appearing Candidates:
- If you’re in Class 12 right now and will appear for your board exams in 2027, you can absolutely apply. Just make sure you pass before the counselling stage.
For Postgraduate Programs (M.Des, M.FTech, MFM)
- You need a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
- Minimum 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).
- For M.Des, a design-related degree is preferred but not always mandatory — check the specific program requirements on the official website.
- For M.FTech, a B.FTech or equivalent technical degree is typically required.
- For MFM (Master of Fashion Management), graduates from any discipline can apply.
No limit on attempts: Unlike some exams, NIFT allows you to appear multiple times as long as you meet the age and qualification criteria
. So if you’re taking a gap year to prepare, don’t stress — you’re not wasting an attempt
